Thank you for participating in the 2007 Mid-States Class AAA Championships.

We are fortunate to be able to hold this event at Kings Stadium.  For those of you who may be unaware, our stadium includes a state of the art synthetic turf, thus even if there is rain, we will have no mud.  I welcome the opportunity to serve your needs and the needs of your staff, students and entire band family.  There will be a hospitality area for directors and staff (Junior High Cafeteria) and bus drivers (High School Cafeteria).

Here is some additional information that should make your day run a little smoother at MSBA Championships.

PARKING

ALL trucks and buses MUST enter the high school parking lot from Kings Mills Road

(see map on website).  We ask that your PIT CREW parents (if not driving a band truck) please park in the spectator parking area across the street from the high school parking lot. (Corner of Kings Mills Road and Kings Island Drive).  Once buses have been checked in and unloaded, they will be parked in the field across the street.

If your band does not make Finals, and your band is staying to watch finals, we ask that you move your trucks/trailers to one of our satellite parking lots. Please inform your truck drivers of this.

NO SPECTATOR CARS will be allowed on Columbia Road (see map on website).  There are “new” roads since last year and these DO NOT appear on Google, Mapquest, and Yahoo. Please make sure your parents use the directions from our website to park their cars.  These directions are DIFFERENT than the parking directions for Trucks/Buses.

CHECK-IN

Please have your students and staff remain on the bus until our band check-in crew has stamped their hands.  Your staff members will have name tags in your check-in packet and do not need to have their hand stamped.  After all hands are stamped, your students can get off the bus.  They can use the high school facilities to freshen up, put on uniforms and prepare to perform.

Your check-in packet will contain 7 free “All Day” wristbands for Pit Parents.  ANY

Number of Pit Parents will be able to help move the band on and off the field for your performance. However, if they wish to sit in the stands and view other bands performing, they will be required to have a wristband to get into the stands.  PIT PARENTS will NOT be stamped.  The cost is $12.00 - All Day, $8.00 Preliminaries - Only, $8.00 – Finals Only.

Wristbands for your bus drivers will also be included in your check-in packet.  The bus drivers will have a hospitality area in the High School Cafeteria.

Wristbands, water and Gatorade will be available for purchase at check-in.

WARM UP

Bands MUST be escorted from the band check-in area to their assigned practice areas.  Please review the site map, as your return trip to your buses will be along a different route.

After warm-up the band will proceed behind the high school to the entrance on the north side of the field.  Due to the narrow opening to the stadium, you may wish to limit the width of your band to 2 abreast during this move.

ADMISSION

Admission is $12.00 for an “All Day” pass (prelims and finals), $8.00 for prelims only, and $8.00 for finals only.  Please inform your parents of the admission charge as it differs from a regular season competition.  Visa/MasterCard may be used for admittance   into the show.  A minimum charge of $12.00 is required. Please ask your parents to use the front stadium entrance. There is limited handicap parking available in front of the stadium.  For those who have difficulty walking, they will be permitted to be dropped off in front of the stadium.  We DO NOT want parents in the transit area behind the high school.

RULES/REGULATIONS

Please review the Mid-States Band Association rules and regulations.  Please remember that ANY auxiliary person that plays a wind, percussion or electronic instrument at ANY time during the show shall be counted as a playing member for the purpose of determining band class.

There will be No award for Best Field Commander.

A few other notes:

ABSOLUTELY NO grilling (charcoal or propane) is allowed in parking areas.  We do not supply electricity for such things as crock-pots in the High School parking lot.

Accommodations at Kings Stadium will include: restrooms and a full service concession stand.  We will have a limited number of loaner instruments available for those of you who may require them.  Each band will receive a complimentary video of your show, filmed from the stadium press box.

The Director’s Hospitality area is in the Junior High Cafeteria.  This is where you will pick up your judges tapes, timing sheet, and videotape after your performance.

NO JUDGES SHEETS OR RECAP SHEETS WILL BE DISTRIBUTED AT PRELIMINARY AWARDS!

However, if you do not make finals and your band is NOT going to stay and watch finals, your Judges sheets and a preliminary recap sheet will be given to you as you leave with your band.  If your band is staying for finals, you will receive your judge’s sheets and recap sheet at the completion of the Finals Awards Ceremony.

Your students will be allowed to view other bands from the Home side bleachers.  They are asked to sit on the SOUTH side of the stadium (closest to Kings Island).

However, if the stands fill with paying spectators, your band will be asked to move to the Visitor’s side of the field by our parents working the stands.  Please inform your students and staff of this.

An extension cord will be available for your “Pit” to plug into if needed.

PLEASE, no sharp objects that would pierce our synthetic turf.

WE WILL HAVE A RETREAT OF FIELD COMMANDERS FOR THE AWARDS CEREMONY.  Please make sure they are in uniform near the band entrance while Carlisle is performing.  An announcement will be made for all Field Commanders to report to the north end of the football field.

Directors, please be near/on the far corner of the field for the Preliminary Competition Awards Ceremony.  IMMEDIATELY following the awards, the draw for Finals placement (top 10 bands) will take place on the track at the 50-yard line.

One last note, PLEASE have your staff, truck drivers, bus drivers and parents review the parking directions located on our website.  (www.kingsmusicassocaition.org). There are different directions for participants and spectators and we need to abide by these directions for the safety of your students.

Updated/current information regarding movement schedules and playtime will also be available on the Kings Music Association website.  Please pull down on the competition tab, and click on Mid-State Championship.

Thank you for your participation in the Championships, and I hope each band has their “best run” of the year on the 3rd.
