Years In Band: 1969-1973 KHS Class of 1973
Instrument Played: Tenor Sax
| Personal Info: |
College of Mount St. Joseph, BS Information Systems 1991. While I no longer play the sax, it does not mean that I have quit playing. I play the harmonica, concertina and recorder all the time. The one thing that I have learned is my gift of playing any piece of music by ear. My father was the past president of the band boosters while I was in the band. |
| Memories of the Band: |
I loved the times while at band camp and the shaving cream fight on the last day! I really miss all the good times that I had while in the Kings Band. I really enjoyed the five years that I spent in the band.
|
| Advice for Band Students: |
Practice, practice, practice. It is a lot of hard work but it all is worth it. You will find all the hard work pays off and it is lots of fun.

Wow... too many memories to list here. All of my memories of band were fun. The worst location for band camp had to be Camp Crescendo!! Oh lord... walking up the long, steep hill to get back to our rooms was a nightmare!
I don't think that the saying "oh you're in band, you must be a geek" holds true. I never felt like a geek. I felt like I was cool. I got to travel to a lot of places many other students didn't. I feel being band helped me appreciate music and the hard work that goes into creating the music and entertaining crowds with that music.
|
| Advice for Band Students: |
Don't give up and don't let anyone tell you that you are a band geek!! |

Years In Band: 1988-1991 KHS Class of 1991
Instrument Played: French Horn/Mellophone
| Personal Info: |
I currently live in Bloomington, Indiana and serve as the HR Director for Stone Belt, a large non-profit social service agency. My wife, Susanne, and I have two children Jack and Annie.
|
| Memories of the Band: |
As I look back on my days at KHS, the best times all involved the band in one way or another. B-ball pep band being quite rowdy (some would say obnoxious!), concert band in playing difficult music and always performing well in concerts and contests. However, it is the hours dedicated to marching band that dominate my memories. Band camp (shaving cream fights, pranks on instructors, and learning drill in the dark one year!) to competitions. Our senior class hadn't won a grand championship during our first 3 years of high school - we won the first contest of our senior year and went on to win 2 more during the year. I remember hosting a Bands of America regional at Galbraith Field. Helping younger band members learn is something I enjoyed as I remember how much it helped me having senior band members guide me when I was a freshman.
|
| Advice for Band Students: |
Realize that time does really fly by. Take some time to cherish the music you play as it really can broaden the appreciation you have for all music. The eclectic mix on my i-pod gets much credit from the various pieces we played during my time in band.

|
Years In Band: 1991-1995 KHS Class of 1995
Instrument Played: Fall and Winter Guard
| Memories of the Band: |
Being a member was the best thing that could have happened to me. I will never forget the friendships that I made and just the thrill of performing infront of people. It was such a rush.
|
|
Years In Band: 1993-1996 KHS Class of 1997

I'm a New Accounts supervisor in Milford, OH. I supervise twenty-five call center associates responsible for responding to inquiries regarding being granted or denied credit. I also led the New Accounts sub-committee for conversion of a new $400M credit portfolio. I created and implemented over 50 credit procedures and policies and collaborated with internal departments and external vendors to construct an automated phone IVR to handle responses to 2M catalog marketing blitz while ensuring new and existing employees were staffed and prepared to handle converted volume and processes.

| Memories of the Band: |
The Rocketeer-Stormworks-Triptych-Candide Joining the marching band was one of the best things I could have ever done. I met and became friends with so many different kinds of people. It was awesome to enter high school as a freshman and have already developed a relationship with others (including upperclassmen) over the summer that carried throughout the year; it made the transition from junior high to high school so easy! Band camp was tough, tiring, hot and sweaty, but I will cherish those memories for the rest of my life. My favorite memories of band would be the hot summers spent on the black top, late nights sitting in the back of the bus on the way home from a competition & Shawn's "retarded swan." Every once in awhile, one of the songs from a show will pop into my head.
|
| Advice for Band Students: |
People aren't lying when they say that 4 years of high school go by fast....they do! And be nice to the staff. They may make you work hard, but they want you to succeed and have fun and they dedicate A LOT of their time towards having an awesome show.

|
Years In Band: 1994-1998 KHS Class of 1998
Instrument Played: Flute, Mellophone
| Personal Info: |
I'm now living outside of NYC, working as a software developer for ChemSW. I don't get many opportunities to play the flute, but I just picked up the banjo! It's a bit more of a social instrument.
|
| Memories of the Band: |
I am very proud of what our band and winterguard accomplished those years. It took a lot of hard work and dedication (as well as a ton of angst and pain). But being a part of a team of 100+ people trying to create art on a football field or basketball court is certainly a unique experience.
|
| Advice for Band Students: |
Don't get wrapped up in the competitions! It seems like such a big deal at the time, but after you graduate and go on to the rest of your life, those competitions don't really mean much anymore. Don't miss out on all the fun and friendships that happens along the way because you're wrapped up in what judges say. Some of my favorite times were performing at the football games, believe it or not.

Years In Band: 2000-2005 KHS Class of 2005
Instrument Played: Guard :)
| Personal Info: |
I graduated from University of Cincinnati, College of Nursing in June and work at University Hospital in the Burn Special Care unit. I LOVE it! Throughout college, I remained active in the colorguard world, marching Onyx Open in '07 and Onyx A in '08. I was colorguard director at Hamilton High School from '05 to '08, assisted with Central Crossing Colorguard in Columbus '07. I just got married on August 23, 2009 to Jeremiah Brunney, assistant band director of Alter Archibishop HS, so of course I "get" to help out with the colorguard!
|
| Memories of the Band: |
I have so many memories from band! Like guard buddy stuff anf Tanya Waugh and I not shaving our legs for like a month before Grand Nationals!
Colorguard and band greatly influenced my future, for I met my husband through band, and most of my best friends are either from HS band or Onyx. I would've never found an after school job if it hadn't been for my guard experience.
|
| Advice for Band Students: |
Have Fun!!! And take advantage of the opportunities with band (future jobs, community service, etc.)
